Field Technician

Job Description

OES’ Definition of Field Operations:
Field Operations entails executing those tasks and assignments associated with collecting data away from the office environment, overseeing the work of colleagues or contractors away from the office environment, and the performance of specific environmental duties with the express purpose of meeting the requirements of staff project managers. Most tasks and assignments are delivered in the form of “Field Work Orders”.

Field Technician Requirements:

  • Work Safely
    • Soil and groundwater sampling
    • Take good notes in the field
    • Execute field work orders
    • Install/maintain remediation equipment
    • Operate (small/heavy) equipment
    • Surveying
    • Calibrate/operate field instruments
    • Office maintenance
    • Order field supplies
    • Maintain vehicle fleet
    • Assist in maintaining safety records
    • Coordinate with laboratories

Essential Job Functions:
• Read and understand Field Work Orders
o Communicate with project managers
o Collect information and data in a prescribed fashion and consistent with OES’ protocols and procedures
o Report “unusual” or “inconsistent” observations to project managers directly
o “Ask questions” if unsure
o Perform all job functions in a safe manner with safety always as a top priority

  • Teamwork
    o Participate in team planning, status, and other meetings
    o Participate in team functions as applicable
    o Senior field technicians to serve as “mentors” to less experienced field staff
    o Participate in Safety Training programs
    o Attend educational seminars and classes
    o Direct and indirect supervision of other field staff and contractors
  • Client Relations
    o Communicate via phone, email, written, etc…
    o Respond promptly to others’ requests
    o Represent the company in a positive way at all times
    o Be courteous of others
    o Respect others’ opinions
  • Regulatory Interaction
    o Be respectful
    o Represent the company in a positive way
    o Unless advised otherwise, typically direct regulatory queries to project managers to respond
  • Development
    o Attend industry functions/tradeshows
    o Attend seminars and other training opportunities
  • Licenses/Industry Standards
    o Advise supervisor of training needs
    o Maintain the appropriate CEUs
    o Maintain licenses

Non-Essential Job Functions:
• Assisting/troubleshooting office equipment
• When asked, participate in team/organizational promotions or events

Qualifications:
• Proficient in e-mail; optimally, proficiency in Microsoft Office Products
• High school education
• Abide by company safety policies
• Clean driving record
• Specialized training (forklift, confined space entry, etc)
• 40 Hr HAZWOPER (with subsequent refreshers)
• Adept with mechanical/power equipment/hand tools

Working Environment:
• Regularly exposed to:
o Outside weather conditions
o Wet/humid environments
o Mechanical parts/rotating mechanical parts
o Electrical systems/electrical parts and components
o Loud noise levels
o Chemical constituents

  • Physical demands:
    o Required to regularly sit, talk, hear, walk, use hands to handle or feel.
    o Also required to reach with arms, stoop, kneel, crawl.
    o Ability to carry up to 100 pounds
    o Must be able to wear personal protective equipment (PPE) like hard hat, safety vest, steel toed boots, hearing protection, respiratory protection
  • Work Schedule:
    o Varies, depending on the job
    o Typically, 7:00 AM to 6:00 PM Monday through Friday, but much opportunity to work additional (or different) hours on a regular basis
    o On-call after hours and on weekends can occur regularly, depending on the job
    o Because this is an “hourly position”, it qualifies for “overtime” (greater than 8 hours per day or greater than 40 hours per week)

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $17.00 – $25.00 per hour
