While the City of Sperry’s contractor was doing some trenching and soil sampling for a proposed new sewer line (courtesy of an INCOG grant), they encountered a very strong hydrocarbon smell in the soil. They called the OCC Brownfield Program because the closest potential source of contamination is the old DX station — where key scenes in the movie The Outsiders was filmed.
This tiny DX station is affiliated with The Outsiders House Museum in Tulsa, OK. Any work regarding the sewer line and the newly-found contamination needed to be completed without disturbing the building itself.
OCC contracted Oklahoma Environmental Services to conduct a Phase I and a GPR survey to find the potentially-leaking tanks.
